How to Measure for Blinds and Shades
Do it yourself
Taking the measurements yourself will help you get an estimate in advance even before one of our representatives visits you, and help make installing your shades a hassle-free and easy process.
Before continuing with this process, we suggest you notify us if:
1. There are windows with frames.
2. The window frame or wall has raised finishes.
3. The window frame or wall has some element that affects the installation, such as a light switch, plug-in connector, etc.
4. You have less than 2 1/2 inches of depth in your window frame.
This will help us determine whether the blinds should go inside or outside the window frame.
Blinds inside the frame
Start by measuring the width of the inner frame at the top, center, and bottom. Be sure to hold and correctly position both ends of the tape on the inside edges of your window frame. Remember to take the smaller measurement from all 3 as your width
Then measure the height of the window frame in the same 3 ways as the width, only now vertically, that is: to the left, center and right side of the frame. Remember to take the smaller measurement from all 3 as your height.
Don't forget to measure the depth of your frame.
You must first define how high above the frame you will place the drawer (Cassette or Fascia) of the blind. From here we will define a perimeter frame, that is; If you decide to place the blind 4 "above the frame, we recommend leaving 4" at the bottom and 4 "on both sides of the window as well. This will give it a consistent look and greater privacy by blocking out light.
